  60. Installing Internet Explorer 5.01 Service Pack 2 and Internet Tools
  61. -------------------------------------------------------------------
  62. Whether you choose to install over the network or download the 
  63. installation files to your hard disk, some or all of the Setup 
  64. files are copied to your hard disk. This allows you to reinstall 
  65. more quickly if necessary. If you want to reclaim the disk space, 
  66. you can remove the Setup directory by double-clicking the 
  67. Add/Remove Programs icon in Control Panel and then clicking 
  68. Internet Explorer 5.01 Service Pack 2. In the Microsoft Internet Explorer Setup 
  69. dialog box, click the Advanced button, and then click "Remove the 
  70. folder containing Internet Explorer setup files."
  71.  
  72. You cannot install Internet Explorer 5.01 Service Pack 2 to or run it from a 
  73. network drive. However, you can download it to a network drive. 
  74. To do this, you must map the network drive to a drive letter on 
  75. your computer. You cannot download Internet Explorer 5.01 Service Pack 2 to a 
  76. UNC path.
  77.  
  78. Running Internet Explorer 5.01 Service Pack 2 on Microsoft Windows NT 4.0
  79. -------------------------------------------------------------------------
  80. NOTE: You must have administrative privileges to install 
  81.       and uninstall this program on Windows NT. This includes 
  82.       having administrative privileges the first time you 
  83.       start your computer after installing or uninstalling.
  84.  
  85. You must restart your computer after installing Internet 
  86. Explorer 5.01 Service Pack 2. This is also true for some add-on components.
  87.  
  88. For corporate deployment on computers running Windows NT 4.0, 
  89. make sure you have the following free registry space:
  90.  
  91.   - If you are upgrading from Internet Explorer 2.0 or 
  92.     Internet Explorer 3.x: at least 4 MB
  93.   - If you are upgrading from Internet Explorer 4.x:
  94.     at least 2.5 MB 
  95.  
  96. If you're running Internet Explorer 5.01 Service Pack 2 on Windows NT 4.0, 
  97. you must set user permissions to Full Control for the Temporary 
  98. Internet Files folder (cache). The user must have write 
  99. permission so that files can be stored in the Temporary 
  100. Internet Files folder.
  101.  
  102. If you must reinstall Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 3 (SP3) 
  103. after you install Internet Explorer 5.01 Service Pack 2, you must specify 
  104. when prompted that you do not want it to overwrite any files 
  105. that are newer. After SP3 is reinstalled, carry out the 
  106. following steps to update the registry:
  107.  
  108. 1. Click the Start button, and then click Run.
  109. 2. Type the following: regsvr32 rsabase.dll
  110. 3. Click OK.
  111.  
  112. Installing Windows NT 4.0 Service Packs 
  113. Over Internet Explorer 5.01 Service Pack 2
  114. ------------------------------------------
  115. If you reinstall a Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack after Internet 
  116. Explorer 5.01 Service Pack 2 is installed on your computer, some components 
  117. will need to be re-registered. To do this, carry out the 
  118. following steps:
  119.  
  120. 1. In Control Panel, double-click Add/Remove Programs.
  121. 2. Click the Install/Uninstall tab.
  122. 3. Click Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.01 Service Pack 2 and Internet Tools, 
  123.    and then click the Add/Remove button.
  124. 4. Click Repair Internet Explorer, and then click OK.
  125. 5. After the repair operation is complete, restart your computer.

  127. Installing Over Windows 2000 Releases
  128. -------------------------------------
  129. Typical and Full installs are not currently available for Windows 2000. 
  130. Internet Explorer 5.01 Service Pack 2 will install a minimal set of files 
  131. into your system, this includes updated web browser, mail components and
  132. scripting support.

  134. Uninstall Internet Explorer 5.01 Service Pack 2 before upgrading to Windows 2000
  135. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  136. Windows 2000 contains an earlier version of Internet Explorer components
  137. When upgrading from Windows 9x or NT to Windows 2000, we recommend that 
  138. you uninstall Internet Explorer 5.01 Service Pack 2 before the upgrade.

  140. Installing Internet Explorer 5.5 over 5.01 Service Pack 2 in Windows 2000
  141. -------------------------------------------------------------------------
  142. After installing Internet Explorer 5.5 on Windows 2000. When you uninstall
  143. Internet Explorer 5.5 and go back to Internet Explorer 5.01 Service Pack 2,
  144. uninstall of Internet Explorer 5.01 Service Pack 2 will no longer be available.

  146. Running Internet Explorer 5.01 Service Pack 2 on a Dual-Boot Operating System
  147. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------
  148. If you are running Internet Explorer 5.01 Service Pack 2 on a computer that is
  149. set up to dual boot between two operating systems on the same 
  150. partition (for example, Windows 95 and Windows NT 4.0), and you 
  151. have configured the computer to share a single Program Files 
  152. folder, you may have problems with add-on components. Also, when 
  153. you uninstall an add-on component from either copy of Internet 
  154. Explorer 5.01 Service Pack 2, it will be removed from both of them without 
  155. updating the other operating system's installed components 
  156. information. These problems are because the add-on files are 
  157. all stored in the shared Program Files folder, but information 
  158. about installed add-on components is stored elsewhere.

  160. Installing or Upgrading the Windows Desktop Update
  161. --------------------------------------------------
  162. To install or upgrade the Windows Desktop Update, you must 
  163. install Internet Explorer 4.01 SP2 before you install 
  164. Internet Explorer 5.01 Service Pack 2. 
  165.  
  166. If you have already installed Internet Explorer 5.01 Service Pack 2 and would 
  167. like to install the Windows Desktop Update, carry out the 
  168. following steps:
  169.  
  170. 1. Uninstall Internet Explorer 5.01 Service Pack 2.
  171. 2. If Internet Explorer 4.01 SP2 is not already installed on 
  172.    your computer, install it.
  173. 3. Install the Windows Desktop Update.
  174. 4. Reinstall Internet Explorer 5.01 Service Pack 2.

  176. Installing Over Localized Windows 98 Arabic and Hebrew Releases
  177. ---------------------------------------------------------------
  178. Windows 98 Arabic and Hebrew require the corresponding localized 
  179. version of Internet Explorer 5.01 Service Pack 2. It is not possible to install 
  180. the English version of Internet Explorer over the localized 
  181. version of Windows 98. This restriction does not apply to 
  182. localized versions of Windows 95 or Windows NT 4.0. You cannot 
  183. install localized Arabic/Hebrew Internet Explorer 5.01 Service Pack 2 on top of 
  184. localized Windows 95 (only English is supported).

  186. Installing Outlook Express 5 on Windows Terminal Server
  187. -------------------------------------------------------
  188. Before installing Outlook Express 5 on Windows Terminal 
  189. Server, the administrator needs to set a compatibility flag 
  190. in the registry for the Outlook Express 5 setup program to 
  191. work correctly. To do this, carry out the following steps:
  192.  
  193. 1. Create this registry key:
  194.  
  195.    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\
  196.    Terminal Server\Compatibility\Applications\setup50
  197.  
  198. 2. Set the following value under the new setup50 key (this value 
  199.    should be of type REG_DWORD): 
  200.  
  201.    Flags = 0x108
  202.  
  203. Installing Internet Explorer 5.01 Service Pack 2 
  204. with Norton Protected Recycle Bin Enabled
  205. -----------------------------------------
  206. It is recommended that you disable the Norton Protected 
  207. Recycle Bin while you install Internet Explorer 5.01 Service Pack 2, and 
  208. that you empty the Norton Protected Recycle Bin before you 
  209. run Setup. Before you empty the Norton Protected Recycle 
  210. Bin, be sure you review its contents in case it contains 
  211. any items you want to recover safely. You can re-enable 
  212. this feature after Internet Explorer 5 Setup is complete.
  213.  
  214. This is recommended because Norton Protected Recycle Bin 
  215. will intercept the removal of temporary files that Setup 
  216. is trying to delete, and you could run out of free space 
  217. on your hard disk if your remaining free space is limited. 
  218. This would cause Internet Explorer Setup to appear locked. 
  219. For instructions on disabling and re-enabling the Norton 
  220. Protected Recycle Bin, see the Norton Utilities documentation.

  222. Installing on Windows 98 with Novell IPX/IP client
  223. --------------------------------------------------
  224. If you are using Novell IPX/IP client with Windows 98, you may 
  225. experience problems if you install Internet Explorer 5.01 Service Pack 2 from 
  226. the Internet. If Setup appears to become unresponsive, restart 
  227. your computer. Setup will continue and finish normally. To work 
  228. around this problem, try one of the following options:
  229.  
  230. - From the Internet, select the Download Only option, 
  231.   and then run and install Internet Explorer 5.01 Service Pack 2 normally.
  232.  
  233. - Install Internet Explorer 5.01 Service Pack 2 from a CD-ROM.
  234.  
  235. Uninstalling Internet Explorer 5.01 Service Pack 2 and Internet Tools
  236. ---------------------------------------------------------------------
  237. You can uninstall Internet Explorer 5.01 Service Pack 2 and Internet Tools by 
  238. carrying out the following steps:
  239.  
  240. 1. In Control Panel, double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon.
  241. 2. Click Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.01 Service Pack 2 and Internet Tools, 
  242.    and then click Add/Remove.
  243. 3. Select "Restore the previous Windows configuration," then 
  244.    click OK.
  245. 4. Follow the instructions on your screen.
  246.  
  247. Uninstall for Internet Explorer 4.x Unavailable
  248. -----------------------------------------------
  249. Uninstall for Internet Explorer 4.x is unavailable when Internet 
  250. Explorer 5.01 Service Pack 2 is installed. The backup files for uninstalling 
  251. Version 4.x are replaced by the backup files for version 5. 
  252. You cannot uninstall version 4.X after uninstalling version 5.

  254. High Encryption Support For Internet Explorer 5.01 Service Pack 2
  255. -----------------------------------------------------------------
  256. High Encryption components are available on Windows 95/98/98 Second Edition
  257. and Windows NT 4.0. To obtain high encryption support for Windows 2000, 
  258. please visit Windows Update or 
  259. http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/downloads/recommended/encryption/default.asp
